Carol’s Restaurant Guide: Where to Eat During a Seven-Night Holiday in Caleta de Fuste
One of the questions I’m asked more than almost any other is, “Where should we eat tonight?”
After years of holidaying in Caleta de Fuste—and now living in Fuerteventura—Andy and I have discovered the restaurants we return to again and again.
A Quick Note…
These aren’t restaurant reviews or a list of every place to eat in Caleta de Fuste.
There are dozens of restaurants to choose from, and what Andy and I enjoy after living here may not always be what someone wants during a week in the sunshine.
These are simply seven of the places we return to ourselves and happily recommend to visiting family, friends and guests. Between them, they offer something for different tastes, budgets and types of evening. The restaurants are not aware of my recoommendation and as such these are 100% authentic.
Fado Rock
If you have spent any time looking at restaurant recommendations for Caleta de Fuste, you have almost certainly come across Fado Rock—and for good reason.
Andy and I first discovered it nearly 30 years ago, on the final night of one of our holidays. We left wishing we had found it sooner because we would definitely have gone back again.
Although Fado Rock is best known as a steakhouse, its large and varied menu makes it a useful choice when everyone wants something different. Personally, if I’m going to an Italian restaurant, I’ll order Italian food, so I tend to save my pasta choices for somewhere that specialises in them—but there is certainly plenty to choose from.
Our favourite dish is the slow-roasted shoulder of lamb. It is enormous and will easily feed two people.
Now, I should confess something…
I always intend to take the leftovers home for the dog.
I never do.
Somehow, they always end up in a cold lamb sandwich with mint sauce the following day!
Only a limited number of lamb shoulders are slow-roasted, so ask about availability when you arrive rather than leaving it until later in the evening.
Fado Rock currently advertises opening daily from 1pm and is listed as remaining open until 11:30pm. This also makes it a possible sit-down option following a later flight, although I would telephone first if you expect to arrive after about 10:30pm.

- Families and mixed tastes
- Steak lovers
- Larger appetites
- A substantial lunch or evening meal
- A later sit-down dinner
- Coeliac diners—our friend ate here without any problems, although individual dietary requirements should always be discussed with the restaurant

If you want the slow-roasted lamb, ask about it when you arrive. To check later dining availability, telephone +34 928 16 35 27.
Slow Boat 2 Buffet
If you are looking for authentic regional Chinese cuisine, there are other options in Caleta. But that isn’t why we go to Slow Boat 2.
For us, it is all about value, speed and choice. When we have holidayed with teenagers, it has been perfect because everyone can eat exactly what they like and nobody leaves hungry.
We once visited with a family whose teenager was particularly difficult to please at mealtimes. While we enjoyed our starters, he happily ate onion rings and rice. When we moved on to our main courses, he was ready for ice cream and jelly.
It turned out to be one of the most relaxed meals of the holiday. There was no waiting between courses and everyone could help themselves to whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted it.
The buffet includes desserts, sushi and popular Chinese favourites such as beef in black bean sauce. Slow Boat 2 currently advertises evening opening from 5:30pm.
Carol’s tip:
If you fancy the duck and pancakes, request it when ordering your drinks. It is included in the buffet price but is prepared to order rather than left sitting on the buffet.

- Big appetites
- Picky eaters
- Good-value meals
- Eating without long waits between courses
Pickled Palm
Tucked away in Puerta del Sol, just a few minutes’ walk from Litha House, Pickled Palm is one of those reliable restaurants we find ourselves returning to.
The menu is very much British-inspired, so if you are craving a good pie, gammon and chips, fish and chips or other familiar favourites after several days of tapas, you will feel right at home.
The food is consistently well cooked, the portions are generous and it is an easy choice when everyone simply wants a comforting meal without going far.
Its current menu covers breakfast and lunch as well as evening meals, with dishes including Pickled Palm pie, ribs, fish and chips, salads, omelettes, ciabattas, tapas and homemade desserts.
The indoor dining area isn’t particularly large. During cooler weather, when more people want to sit inside, I recommend booking a table.

- Traditional British favourites
- Families
- Comfort food
- Cooler evenings
- A relaxed meal close to Litha House
Coco’s Kitchen
If I had to choose somewhere for a memorable evening, Coco’s Kitchen would be very high on the list.
The Thai and Asian street-food dishes are beautifully presented and packed with flavour. It is the sort of restaurant where you can tell that each dish has been carefully considered and freshly prepared.
Coco’s Kitchen is small and extremely popular, so I recommend trying to book as soon as possible after arriving. If you are staying for a week, you may only be able to secure a table towards the end of your holiday.
Its outside dining space has expanded, but advance booking remains sensible—especially during cooler “chunky cardigan” evenings when everyone would prefer to sit inside.
When we visited, the restaurant worked with timed sittings. That meant an early booking did not necessarily leave time to linger over coffee afterwards. Arrangements can change, so ask when booking whether your table has a finishing time.
This probably isn’t the obvious choice for extremely picky eaters. However, if you enjoy trying something different and appreciate thoughtful cooking, I think you will love it.

Everest Tandoori – Indian and Nepali Cuisine
For me, Everest Tandoori is one of the more authentic Indian restaurants in Caleta when it comes to flavour—and the naan breads are enormous!
What makes Everest a little different is its selection of Nepali dishes. These offer something beyond the usual Indian restaurant choices and are equally delicious.
However, if you are craving a familiar favourite, the menu still includes the classic curries you would expect.
Everest is upstairs above the Lord Nelson, opposite Caleta’s main bus station. You can eat in, but it also offers a takeaway service.
We often send our order by WhatsApp and collect it—a particularly good option when we fancy a quiet evening at Litha House binge-watching Netflix.
Visitors from Britain may find Indian food in Caleta a little more expensive than at home. Spices and specialist ingredients cost more to bring to the island, but at Everest you receive generous portions and plenty of flavour.

- Authentic Indian and Nepali flavours
- Trying something beyond the familiar curry-house menu
- Generous portions
- A relaxed takeaway night at Litha House

The naan breads really are huge, so think carefully before ordering one each! Send your takeaway order by WhatsApp to +34 623 605 963 and collect it from the restaurant.
Something a Little Special
Algo Más
Algo Más is a unique restaurant overlooking the Salinas de Antigua golf course, with views stretching down towards the sea.
You will need a taxi from Litha House, but it is well worth the short journey.
This is one of the restaurants I recommend for a birthday, anniversary or any occasion when you want something a little more special. It is slightly more expensive than many restaurants in central Caleta, but everything I have tried from the menu so far has been delicious.
It is also one of my favourite places for a long, leisurely lunch. The tables are well spaced, the surroundings are lovely and the whole restaurant has a wonderfully relaxed, chilled atmosphere.
It is the sort of place where you can settle in, take your time and enjoy the views without ever feeling rushed.
Perfect for:
- Birthdays and anniversaries
- A special occasion
- A long, relaxed lunch
- Dining with views towards the sea
Carol’s tip:
Book a taxi and allow plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the experience.
Ascension
If you would like somewhere special a little closer to hand, Ascension is tucked away in Puerta del Sol, within walking distance of Litha House.
It has an interesting and varied menu and is another excellent choice for a birthday, anniversary or simply an evening when you fancy something a little different.
The current menu states that all main courses include fresh vegetables and chips—something you don’t always find when eating out on holiday.
Ascension will take walk-ins when it has space, but it is an intimate and popular restaurant, so I strongly recommend booking to avoid disappointment.
It is particularly known for its individual Beef Wellington, which must be ordered in advance. Lobster dishes also appear among its specials, but availability and preparation can change, so ask about the current lobster options when making your reservation.
Perfect for:
- A special dinner
- Interesting dishes
- Fresh vegetables with your main course
- Celebrating without needing a taxi from Litha House

Arriving Late and Need Something to Eat?
Flights do not always arrive according to plan. By the time you have collected your luggage, picked up a hire car and reached Litha House, many restaurant kitchens may already be closing.
These are three useful options if you arrive late, depending on whether you want a takeaway or would prefer to sit down for dinner.
Shivam Indian Restaurant & Donner Kebab Castillo
This is the Shivam in central Caleta, directly opposite Fado Rock.
As well as Indian dishes, it serves chicken, beef and mixed kebabs. Our favourite is the mixed kebab, which is generous, full of flavour and ideal when you need something substantial without sitting through a formal meal.
You can eat there or order food to take away. Shivam is currently listed as opening daily from 12:30pm until 1am, making it particularly useful if your flight arrives late or has been delayed.
It is also within walking distance of Litha House, so there is no need to get back in the car once you have arrived.
Perfect for:
- A filling meal after an evening flight
- Chicken, beef or mixed kebabs
- Indian food
- Late-night takeaway
- A quick meal within walking distance of Litha House
Carol’s tip:
Our favourite is the mixed kebab. If your flight has been badly delayed, call +34 635 06 04 43 to confirm that the kitchen is still accepting orders.
Aloha Gardens & PizzAloha
Aloha Gardens is another useful arrival-night option. PizzAloha serves really good, freshly prepared wood-fired pizzas that can be eaten there or ordered to take away.
The pizzas make an easy first-night meal when nobody wants to unpack and then sit through a full restaurant dinner.
PizzAloha currently advertises opening from 6pm until late. However, “until late” does not guarantee that the pizza kitchen will still be accepting orders at a particular time, so check ahead if your flight has been badly delayed.
Perfect for:
- Freshly made, wood-fired pizza
- A quick first-night takeaway
- Feeding a hungry family
- An informal meal after travelling
Carol’s tip:
If you expect to reach Caleta very late, check that the pizza oven is still operating before travelling there.
Fado Rock for a Sit-Down Dinner
If you would rather sit down and have a proper meal after travelling, Fado Rock is currently listed as serving into the later evening.
It is open daily from 1pm and is listed as remaining open until 11:30pm. Its broad menu is helpful when a family arrives hungry and everyone wants something different.
Fado Rock is also very close to Litha House, so it is a practical alternative to collecting a takeaway.
Carol’s tip:
If you expect to arrive after about 10:30pm, telephone +34 928 16 35 27 before travelling there to check that the kitchen is still taking orders.
Still Not Found What You Fancy?
These choices are only a starting point. Caleta has far more places to eat than anyone could fit into a single seven-night holiday.
Tapitapas and Oliver Fly are both excellent places to eat, but they already feature in my separate tapas and cocktail guides.
If you fancy fish and chips in a friendly British bar setting, Doyles is another option worth considering.
Baku Smash Burger, beside Tapitapas, is also receiving some very enthusiastic recommendations. I haven’t tried it myself yet, so I can’t include it as one of my personal recommendations—but it may appeal if a burger and chips are exactly what you fancy.
That is the real point of this guide: there is no single “best restaurant” for everybody, wherever you choose to eat I hope that you enjoy your meals.
